For as long as I can remember, I have always loved the beach.
It has always given me a since of peace, puts me at ease and has become my go-to vacation when I need to hit the reset button.
It's my happy place. A place I can take time to myself to reflect and readjust my life.
It somehow becomes a tiny oasis to escape from reality if only for a couple days.
The smell of salt in the air, on your lips, and in your hair.
Reminds me of a t-shirt....Salty hair, don't care!
One of my favorite sounds is waves crashing onto the shoreline. Each with a different tone and no wave ever sounding the same.
But did you know, that starring at the ocean actually changes our brain waves and can put us into a mild meditative state? All this time, I thought it was the umbrella drinks!
Science has proven that being by the water, whether it is a lake, sea or ocean, will actually improve mental health? Turns out, the minerals in sea water can actually reduce your stress by lowering cortisol levels. And the negative ions found around waterfalls and off waves can increase the flow of oxygen to your brain, enhancing alertness and energy. Apparently, contemplating the beauty of a waterfall, the sea or ocean can also have an intense impact on the way we feel. Not to mention lower our heart and breathing rate.
It's amazing what you can find on google at 2 a.m!
In my persistent searching, I learned that salt also preserves serotonin and melatonin which can decrease depression and help you sleep better at night.
Note to self: stock up on epsom salts.
And lastly, the color blue has long been associated with peace/calm and shown to enhance creativity.
So here's what I've gathered from this 2 a.m. rendezvous.....the next time you want to bliss out on the beach, just think....you'll be doing your body a world of good!
Where should be go next?
I've got my beach towel and flip flops ready to go.
