SMEAR CAMPAIGNS

Updated: Oct 6, 2022

“They couldn’t break your spirit, so they’ll try to assassinate your character.” Inspire Positive Life

ree

Your favorite narcissistic weapon is a malicious verbal ploy

A tool used to manipulate, control, and destroy

You systematically attempt to dismantle my reputation

Call our family, flipping scripts

Texting friends to trash my name

Emailing coworkers to broadcast slander

Attacking my character with gossip and shame

You'll call me crazy to anyone who'll lend you an ear

Push buttons for reaction then publicize responses

You intentionally inflict emotional pain

An evil endeavor to make me appear unstable

You'll charge me with carrying out all you've done wrong

The hypocrisy so unbelievable it makes my head throb

You attempt to drag me into a chaotic distraction

Drain my energy, cause anxiety, create confusion and anger

You will crush my soul till I want to give up and die

Ensure that I'm silenced with no defense to your lies

You brutally attack in the most public ways

Protecting your fragile ego with your damage control

The wicked little schemes of your smear campaigns

7 TIPS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH A SMEAR CAMPAIGN

  1. Do not engage. Do nothing. If possible, go no contact!

  2. Take time to uncover your triggers. Speak with a licensed professional to help uncover and heal the triggers the narcissist is using to provoke you. For help finding a domestic abuse therapist click the button at the bottom of this page.

  3. Own your truth. Keep in mind, reputation is what other's think about you. Character is who you are. No one can compromise your character but you. As crazy and dizzying as it feels to be stuck in a smear campaign, remember that you are in control of who you are.

  4. Work on emotional detachment and heal beyond the disconnection from this relationship. In other words, focus on you and work on rebuilding your inner connections.

  5. Gather or join a trusted support group

  6. Make time for a hobby to refocus your attention. ie: yoga, a cooking class, sports, music or art lessons, etc.

  7. Find ways you can connect and share your authentic, wonderful self. ie: volunteer at a local non-profit, join a small group of a local church, coach a youth sports team, read to children at a library, be a greeter at a museum or event. Wherever you choose to get involved, let your beautlfil light shine!
