“Trauma creates change you don’t choose. Healing is about creating change you do choose.” Michelle Rosenthal

Some people survive through community.
Some endure in silence.
Others thrive by creating.
Yet all persist through movement.
Rarely do we heal by accident.
To exist as a survivor, you never leave the scene of the crime.
There are wounds that never show on the body.
Scars that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds.
Trauma decontextualized over time masks itself as personality.
Do you see the sadness behind anger?
The anxiety behind fear?
Dissociation created by grief or shame?
If you listen with your heart you will understand.
We must actively participate in recovery.
Understanding is the first step to acceptance.
Acquainting ourselves to the root problem and solutions.
Shifting and realizing we are not the same person we used to be.
Becoming a light for others.
Behind every strong person is a story of darkness that was conquered.
Post-traumatic growth is a long and arduous process.
There is no time stamp on healing.
No formula you can insert to progress from horror to healed.
Be patient.
The key to dealing with pain is exposing the parts that still ache.
Embracing our own limitations and strength.
Becoming more compassionate with ourselves and others.
Mountains don’t rise without earthquakes.
Rock bottom is the solid foundation on which we rebuild.
We owe it to ourselves and others.
Deserve everything beautiful that life still has to give.
